Grant Applicants
Requirements for Eligibility
- An organization must be able to prove non-profit status
- Proposals must align with the interests and mission of the Maurice and Dorothy Stubnitz Foundation
- Organization must be located in or serve Lenawee County residents
- All grants are expected to be used by the grantee.
Items typically funded:
- Agency one-time-only expenses or projects
- Agencies serving Lenawee County residents

Exclusions:
The Stubnitz Foundation does not fund:
- Operational expenses except in start-up or emergency situations. Examples of Operational expenses: Staff salaries, Clients’ consumable supplies, Agency consumable supplies, Agency ongoing expenses (insurance, utilities, travel expenses, etc.)
- Annual commitments to organizations except when a particular project extends over a limited period of years
- Endowments
- Social events
- Conferences
- Exhibits
- Requests conditional on getting matching funds
- Loans or debt retirement
- Religious organizations (churches) but will consider charitable organizations supported or sponsored by religious groups
- Organizations that pass-through funds to other groups
- Terrorist organizations
- Groups involved in civil disobedience
- Groups that practice discrimination by race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, physical or mental disability
- Organizations to which contributions are not tax deductible, according to Internal Revenue Service regulations
- Political organizations or organizations whose purposes are to influence legislation
The Maurice and Dorothy Stubnitz Foundation does not unlawfully discriminate internally (in its administrative and program operations) or externally (in provision of services) on the basis of race, political orientation, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, marital status, veteran status, or mental or physical disability or any other status prohibited by applicable law.
Special Note:
While the Foundation Board would like to assist all potential grantees, its resources are limited. Grant requests received each year are compared and ranked with all of the others received that year. Funding is awarded to those with the top ranking. This does not mean that some requests were not worthy of a grant, only that funds to support them were not available. Declination of a request should not be seen as judgment on the merits of the proposal.
Instructions for Presenting a Request
- The Foundation makes grants once per year. This guideline can be overridden under extraordinary circumstances with the unanimous consent of the Foundation Board Members
- Applications for grants are due by April 30th (If April 30th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, applications will be received the following Monday
- Applications will be reviewed at a May meeting of the Foundation Board of Directors and those granted will typically be paid out no later than June 30th
- Personal solicitation of an individual Foundation Board member is not encouraged. All requests should contain enough detail for the Board to do a comparison of the project’s value in relation to other requests. Personal appearance before the Foundation Board will be granted only by invitation in order for the Board to obtain more detail about a request
- Elaborate or lengthy applications are not encouraged
- Online Applications will be accepted utilizing the forms found on StubnitzFoundation.org
- Required attachments must be uploaded
- A Stubnitz Foundation Board Member will visit the grantee to witness the results of the grant award within one year after the grant is awarded

Applicants without website access
May submit seven hard copies of the proposal along with one copy of the required attachments to: The Maurice and Dorothy Stubnitz Foundation, 4196 W. Maple Ave. Adrian, MI 49221.
- Please do not use folders or binders
- Proposals must be typed and must contain the following:
- Organization name
- Address
- Contact Person/Phone/Email
- Brief history of the organization
- Total amount of funding requested (if there are several projects for which funds are requested, list each amount separately by priority)
- Description of the project(s) or program(s) for which funds are requested
- Date and timeframe for the use of the funds
- Documentation required: (If below items are not available explain why)
- Support for the funding requested (ex: contracts, firm final bids and estimates). Preliminary and casual estimates will not be considered
- Additional financing secured or required to complete the project
- First-time applicants only: financial statements for the prior two fiscal years
- Financial statement for the prior fiscal year
- Current fiscal year budget
- IRS tax exemption letter or 990
- Notification will be made to all applicants whether favorable or unfavorable by the end of May
- A Stubnitz Foundation Board Member will visit the grantee to witness the results of the grant award within one year after the grant is awarded
