Maurice & Dorothy Stubnitz Foundation Board History
Dorothy Stubnitz died in 1990 in Honolulu at the age of 82. A Foundation was established in 1992 beginning with initial assets of close to four million dollars. Its purpose was to “benefit and promote education, the arts, environmental and humanitarian causes, conservation and other charitable activities”. Grants were awarded beginning in 1992.
The original Board of Directors consisted of five persons:
Gaylord Baker, James Feeney, Betty Gross, Charles Gross, and Hildreth Spencer
The number of Board Members was increased to seven in 2006.
In 2009, The Board Members determined that it would be prudent to visit the grantees before the end of the calendar year to determine whether funds were being used appropriately and to become better informed about the various community organizations the Foundation was supporting.
